✦ The Origin of Althea

How the thinking evolved.

In the summer of 2025, I was working with a developer tools company on their PR story when their head of developer relations started tracking the company's AI visibility. Something shifted.

I realized that everything I had spent years learning in PR, how to win trust, how to earn credibility across many sources, how to humanize technology, those are exactly the skills that drive AI visibility. AI is consensus-driven. It is looking for many points of proof across many credible sources. PR is built to deliver exactly those points of proof. The mechanics are the same. The medium has changed.

When most of the industry was still optimizing for placements and impressions, I was watching how buying decisions were actually shifting. Buyers were going to AI assistants, not just Google or a magazine. So I built a measurement system around that reality and structured an entire methodology to address it. That is what Althea is.

Being famous to everyone is a vanity goal. Being findable to exactly the right person, at exactly the right moment. That is what compounds.

Why presence matters more than fame.

Media is not just fragmented right now. It is permanently, structurally personalizing. As more journalists are laid off and platforms proliferate across podcasts, YouTube, newsletters, streaming, and whatever comes next, large-scale brand campaigns become less and less able to effectively reach a specific buyer.

The rise of AI makes a brand's ability to genuinely know their customer a minimum viable requirement for growth. Not a nice-to-have. A baseline. And it makes the fundamentals that have always driven great PR, real stories, credible placements, authentic community presence, compound harder than they ever have.

Presence is greater than dominance. The old model was dominating attention through ego-driven publicity. Today it is about being found by the right people who need what you offer, at exactly the moment they are looking.

Before Althea, I spent years in senior roles at global agencies and leading in-house teams across markets. The work has ranged from enterprise to growth-stage, across developer tools, fintech, adtech, martech, and B2B SaaS.

That includes managing ASML's U.S. communications during the global chip shortage, when getting the story right really mattered. Driving signups through media strategy for Ellevest. Launching Acast Recommends. Helping companies like Major League Hacking and Adelaide Metrics build a brand presence from near zero.

The through line has always been the same: understand what the audience actually cares about and meet them there. Althea is that instinct, systematized.
